Why do we like this?
Allie’s debut album, maybe next time, was released in August, featuring an array of indie-rock guitar-driven songs along with softer sounding acoustic moments that were more reminiscent of her first EP Junior Coder’s Experiment.
“ETYG” was one of the singles put out prior to the album, a standout track that doesn’t rely on guitars whether they be pop-punk or campfire strums, “ETYG” uses the guitar as an accessory to its mysterious groove. The track augments steadily, introducing various percussive elements to the rhythmic hook found in the bassline. Allie’s vocals are always doubled, producing a polished and full sound that really rounds out the mix.
The outro of the song provides the greatest dynamic variability, with an intimate verse or two that are lyrically set up as pledges, starting off with the phrase “hand over heart.” I find that “ETYG” is a very efficient song when it comes to creating atmosphere, it would fit perfectly in a teen-movie soundtrack so it can also be an excellent song to soundtrack one’s daily life, making ordinary tasks a touch more cinematic.
