I HATE PEOPLE
Nov 10, 2021
Why do we like this?
What struck me most about Deathsport’s “I HATE PEOPLE” was the utter honesty of it. I love it — so raw and vulnerable. Beyond that, so very human. We’ve all had a taste of these states of minds, states of minds where a blacked out room and a blanket pulled overhead is the daily solution.
As Sartre explained, “Hell is other people.”
What’s interesting for me is that these hellish states of mind need not linger. Any alternate route of thinking could see us out of it: a ‘so-what’ attitude, a shrug of the shoulders and a sigh, an ‘it shall pass’ outlook, or the more mysterious ‘what is real anyways?’ Opt for any of them and the world eases up around us, and maybe the hellbeings that are people, will start to smile instead of grimmace.
The curious thing is that this is much easier said than done. For a thought to really hold true and change the way we feel takes tremendous willpower. So for most of us, instead of floating on these lilo thoughts above the messy currents of our minds, we’re continuously knocked off. We’re knocked right into the complexity, the drama, the great play on the MainStage, right into the very centre of the scribble. And it’s when we’re there, that Deathsport’s “I HATE PEOPLE” can play on a loop in quiet content while we listen from beneath the darkness under the blankets.
This track marks the second single from the bands upcoming EP, Case Study Songs, due November 19th on Bandcamp and all other streaming platforms. Keep an ear and eye out.
