Why do we like this?

“I Need a Doctor” is one of those songs I didn’t expect to like, but ended up loving. It’s a dreamy, down-tempo, bedroom pop, electronica-infused missive, describing a struggle with mental health I think we’ve all been able to relate to in one way or another at some point over the past two years.

The various lockdowns we’ve experienced since 2020, coupled with the failing global economy and a planet on the verge of destruction due to climate change have resulted in many of us feeling like we need a doctor, or someone to talk to. The struggle has indeed been real, and sometimes it can feel like sleep is our only escape from a world gone mad. Elohim is a one-woman show who has taken that struggle and turned it into something beautiful and relatable:

“I watch murder documentaries

To make myself feel like I’m less of a freak

I go to sleep ’cause it’s my only escapе

I go to sleep ’cause I don’t wanna be awake

I gеt manic then I crash, my highs and lows don’t last

I need a week at least to clear my cache”

On a serious note, if you’re struggling, and you too need someone to talk to, help is available. Reach out. You’re never alone.
