Why do we like this?

Based in London, Ella Smoker (or gglum), is an up-and-coming indie artist whose debut release “Why Don’t I Care?” was featured on a Spotify editorial playlist.

“Navy” is the second single off of her debut EP, once the edge has worn off. The track’s instrumentation is lush and light, captured in essence by the single’s cover art.

Released by VLF records, Smoker’s EP is very cohesive, with a singular airiness to every track. Smoker’s vocal performance is reminiscent of Clairo and Arlo Parks, it’s fluid and bright. Some standout lyrics include:

Up above

There’s something playing jokes on me

One-sided love

The type that makes it hard to breathe
