Hotel Ugly invites us to play with their toys, to readjust our ideas of rock, soft alt, and the ever-changing collector’s items of indie.
“Action Figures Fighting” is the VHS hidden in the back of your storage room. Like a diamond in the rough of an oversaturated indie space, it’s a collector’s item. Hotel Ugly has created a track that’s as unique as the limited edition items of its namesake. It’s a soft shoegaze track that has a flair for the tropical and electrical pazas (this toy has lasers), but it doesn’t over articulate, this song still belongs on a shelf with all the other classics and should only be opened with caring hands…and appreciating ears.
