Why do we like this?

Have you ever read the title of a song, listened to the first 30 seconds, and totally understood why the artist picked that title? “Rose Pink Cadillac” is like that.

The sleazy, jangly electric guitars, and dreamy, hazy vocals create the epitome of the nostalgic visual high of a sleek, pink Cadillac cruising on down the Sunset strip, ocean waves crashing along the shoreline to your right, palm trees swaying lazily overhead, setting sun painting the sky with streaks of crimson and gold as the breeze whips your hair back and a smile stretches across your face.

Taking a page out of the 60’s surf-rock and soul book, Angus Stone’s subdued vocals nestle comfortably in the pocket between gently riffing guitars and light but upbeat percussion. It’s buttery smooth and glamorous, retro and laidback — much like the eponymous Cadillac.

Stone, who first blinked onto our radar courtesy of his folksy duo with sister Julia Stone, continues to carve out his own musical narrative through his solo project, Dope Lemon. This latest single succeeds his two previous, critically acclaimed albums, Smooth Big Cat and Honeybones. I can’t wait to see what he does next.
