Why do we like this?

Hello Internet and welcome to the first few moments after I realized that what I recently experienced was indeed burnout. Thank you for joining me and please walk right this way.

Long story short, after months of waking up before sunrise in order to fit in exercise, meditation, shower, breakfast, and, of course, Netflix before work, I hit a wall that I never saw coming. Enter Dad Bod’s “The Drifter” just in the nick of time to slow things all the way down.

“The Drifter” allows me to float along on beautiful string-work before vocals like liquid forest-wood enter the picture, burying me in the rich soil of tasteful musicianship. And just like that, I feel, at once and again, grounded. Just what I needed and I hope it can do the same for you. Enjoy ♡

Why do we like this?

Grae’s “Soft” is reminiscent of the very best of cutesy, breathy, 90’s pop and indietronica. Feminine vocals repeat an easy-to-remember chorus, ensuring that you’ll be singing along in the car with the windows down and your oversized sunglasses keeping the morning sun from shining too bright while you sip your iced coffee from a straw, in no time flat.

Hailing from Toronto, Grae is a petite, doe-eyed artist whose entire aesthetic harkens back to the early ’90s, replete with pink hair, slightly too-long bangs, and an electric guitar. In the true style of the decade, this saccharine offering is about a crush (cute, hey?), and how falling for someone literally makes you all…well, soft, in the best possible way. That feeling of floating on marshmallow clouds while your heart does little somersaults, of secret smiles while you daydream about the future, of the feeling of someone’s hand in yours – that’s what this track embodies. It’s adorable. Everything about it is adorable. Need proof? Here you go:

“You took me to the water

I drowned in how much I adore you

True, I ran right into obsession

You had me feeling, feeling blood rushin’ again”

– Grae, Soft

Released on February 10th, 2021, Grae’s latest single is indulgent and warm and will have you humming it without realizing for days on end. You may even curl up at night with a sweet little smile on your face and this song in your heart, while your thoughts wander through the peaceful meadows of your mind looking for a love that makes you feel the way Grae describes: happy, safe, and soft.
