Why do we like this?

“Last Night” brings all the best parts of sensual late ‘70s/ early ‘80’s bedroom groove and combines them with contemporary R&B and progressive electronica. Sound confusing? It’s not. It’s a work of art.

This track is bold and intimate, and the perfect addition to a night in with that special someone (yeah, you know what I mean, don’t be coy) You only need to look at the cover art to get the picture. For example, here are some lyrics:

Coming from afar in the club

You started noticing me

Last night

I turned you around, around, around

Baby (baby)

But girl I won’t waste time

And these drinks don’t get me high

You get me drunk in no time

(You get me drunk in no time, baby)

See what I mean?

Trust me though, the sparse lyricism is more than made up for by the smooth synthy goodness, seductive bass-line, and oh-so-sultry vocals. This is a track for passionate, voluptuous, shag-rug-by-the-roaring-fire-while-the-rain-pours-outside, epicurean, hedonistic pleasure – but like, in the most loving and consensual way. Add this to your playlist. Yes, that playlist. You know the one I mean. 😉

Why do we like this?

What “Tired of Waiting” lacks in lyricism, it more than makes up for in funky bassline and euphoric groove. London-based collective Franc Moody has released a banging new disco-house-inspired single ahead of the release of their highly anticipated new album House of FM, due out June 9th.

The sparse vocal melodies and addition of tasty licks of deep funk and soul add a whole new take on what would otherwise sound like the lovechild between Daft Punk and Jamiroquai, but instead sounds like a completely fresh interpretation of the genres mastered by the old-school, with a little bit of extra spice for good measure.

According to their Bandcamp profile, the duo says of the track:

“Vocally and lyrically the track is pretty sparse, we just sang what came into our heads at the time. The lyric “tired of waiting” seemed to stick, perhaps a subconscious nod to being cooped up during lockdown. All the other elements were the usual pick n mix from the Franc Moody potpourri; hot sauce, synths, skanking, ooh’s (and aah’s) etc. We wanted the tune to sound like a runaway train that never loses momentum…”

And lose momentum it does not. Not for a second. This glitter-doused jam will get you up and moving in no time.

Why do we like this?

“Big Cheese” is the definition of slightly chaotic, irresistible funk that’ll make you want to throw your hands up and dance. It’s a vivid, colourful exploration of high-quality warehouse funk, and is the latest single from Franc Moody’s upcoming album, House of FM, due for release on May 19th. It’s an exhilarating, hefty slice of dancefloor-ready disco pie sure to get you on your feet and grooving, whether you have a light-up dancefloor and disco ball or not.

It’s hard to believe the entire album was written and recorded under lockdown in London, given its bold and cheerful feel. According to the collective, “Big Cheese” is:

“Our attempt to soundtrack the human version of a peacock’s strut – bold, colourful confidence. We actually initially imagined the tune being the tongue in cheek soundtrack to the cliched “city slicker”; a pin-striped suit, slick-back hair, overconfident deal maker. But as the tune evolved we realised that this strut is not the domain of the “Big Cheese’s” in the financial world but actually this groove just becomes about an attitude, a confidence to express oneself fully and unashamedly.”

Franc Moody developed amidst the exclusive warehouse scene in the UK, and have cemented their reputation as a force to be reckoned with through a series of sold-out live shows, their highly acclaimed debut album, Dream in Colour, a unique live stream of an ambitious short film called Live in the Lift which raised over £1000 for Music Venues Trust, their fan-focused Whatsapp groups, and “Franc Zoomy” parties. Their music combines elements of house, nu-disco, rave culture and modern pop to create a sense of joyful escapism and fun; ultimately, Franc Moody are a sign of better days to come.
