Why do we like this?

A Broken Wing, an Unsteady Flight

I couldn’t get to writing about this track, because I was way too mesmerized by the sound infecting my brain – pure calm, pure relaxation, and a touch of angsty romance.

I am still riding on the Metronomy train and I don’t plan to get off at the next stop. “Uneasy” is a beautifully constructed chill pop anthem of alt-rock romance and indie-pop ideals. Let the bass guitar pluck and the drum-line bop, because I have been listening to this on repeat and I suggest you do too.

It’s got all the complicated feelings of romance and gives me the ability to view them as if from above, with a broken wing, but a beautiful view.

Why do we like this?

Caribou is back with your daily dose of Monday motivation: “You Can Do it!”. It’s a fun, synth-laden track sparse on lyricism, but utilizing a single vocal sample throughout that’s sure to put a smile on your face. And if it doesn’t? Watch the wholesome music video.

It showcases dogs of every shape, size, color, and breed running freely and with reckless abandon through fields of flowers, endless white beaches, green parks and hills, sun-drenched forests, and open roads – and as the song gains in tempo and intricacy towards the climax, they’re all pictured flying through the air in order to perform some improbable and glorious frisbee catches. These are very good boys and girls.

The entire experience of song and video is uplifting and joyful and may be just the kick in the pants you need to shed the self-doubt and remind yourself that you’re a badass champion who can do anything.

Dogs don’t waste time doubting themselves. They just run off and do the thing, paws akimbo, tongues lolling, the wind in their fur. Maybe you should, too.

Why do we like this?

Yoh, this is a funky track. It’s like an upbeat Hot Chip and Metronomy smooshing together with a bit of funky french pop. The combo is great, and once again the Parisian has won me over (his last cameo on Indie Shuffle was back in 2019).

“Fool Moon” actually stands in pretty stark contrast to the aforementioned “Dreams.” Whereas the former was downtempo and pensive, this one’s a clearly upbeat infectious dance track that has me grooving from the moment it kicks off.

There’s an EP coming soon via Délicieuse Records, so I won’t rule out another song being featured on Indie Shuffle at some point 🙂

Give Me All My Vitamins in a Neon Cup

So here is the thing, I am, like any other human out there, not scared to admit: I love me some Metronomy and this song is the perfect little example of how beautifully mouldable the Metronomy sound is.

Anna Prior remix of “Everything Goes My Way” has dripping bass that runs right through the song and pulses into your veins, taking complete control. Layered then, by a haunting beautiful female vocal and pop wail only to then, as if this combination wasn’t enough, we get a running disco synth rhythm slamming all of those elements into a singular capsule. Like sealing the bottle and sending out what can only be described as a concentrated vitamin of pulsing disco synth noises that I can’t get enough of!

Sign me up for the daily dose.

Why do we like this?

The original version of “GLY” by Catching Flies is downtempo, slightly glitchy, electronica goodness. It’s a groovy, synth-y, soft house track that’ll have you tapping your feet in no time flat. It’s a fun little track as it is, but Hot Chip’s remix breathes a more sophisticated, percussion-driven soul into the original that I didn’t quite know it was lacking until I heard this.

The track itself is quite repetitive, but therein lies its appeal. It’s a track for dancing to when the clubs open again, and we can all jive and be merry. Until that time, it’s a track for grooving to around your lounge in your pyjamas and slippers, glass of wine in hand.

It’s an understated, no-frills, straight-up easy jam. Turn up the volume and grab your best dancing-slippers. Move the furniture if you must. Get into it. You won’t regret it.

Why do we like this?

Monkey See, Monkey Groove

Blessed Madonna’s remix of Jungle’s “Keep Moving” is a banging groove, layered with eccentricities that had me swinging and jiving for about 12 loops.

Jungle, in its own right, creates music that you can dance to almost instantly — no breaks, no stopping, from top to bottom absolute jams. However, one would think they couldn’t increase that speed, that rhythm, that power, and yet here we are – jamming at a grooving hyperspeed all thanks to Blessed Madonna.

The song is a literal forest of sounds, funky grooves, electric swooshes, rambling drums, and an omnipresent vocal that never lets us go, always there to remind you that no matter what, no matter how tired you are, the party isn’t going to stop and you should just keep moving.

What a jam; what a time!
