Keaton Henson once again rips into the layers of your heart, a calm voice in a storm of emotion.
The hurt one — the lover that just can’t let you go — a song about the conversation you wish you could have had. “You can explain it” is what you keep telling yourself. The one that got away is now away and you are simply in the middle of the forest of your feelings and it truly does suck, so so much.
“No Love Lost” is classic Henson, a beautifully constructed and emotionally shaking song that takes you through every cathartic note. It gives you closure the way you need, not the way you want and it truly is stunning.
It took me two days to write about this song — it had been swirling and sinking into my brain like a piano tied to an anchor and it just won’t let my brain go.
The opening line is all about the inevitable: the end is here, so stop fighting. It’s a melancholic observation of a moment we’ve all been at, a moment a lot of us don’t want to visit again. It does however approach this moment with a beautiful melancholy that I just can’t get rid of.
I can’t let go of this song, it’s my partner going down and I’m going down with them — the water is warmer when we hug.
The boat is going down and I just want to watch it sink.
