Alkaline’s “Top Prize” Album Tops Streaming Charts Ahead Of Release

Alkaline says his sophomore album shows growth and experience as the body of work making its presence felt on international charts ahead of its release.

With several weeks to go before the release of his second studio album, Alkaline is already dominating the charts. His album Top Prize is the #1 pre-ordered album on all major streaming platforms, including Amazon and iTunes. Alkaline’s fans have been showing up for the artiste as they await the May 14 release of the album.

As of the time of this publication, the album was #1 in pre-orders internationally and for the Reggae charts on Amazon. Sales have also landed “Top Prize” in the best selling charts in Amazon’s Caribbean category.

On the iTunes platform, “Top Prize” secured the top prize, peaking at number 1 on the US Reggae Album chart. It also peaked at the #2 spot on the global all genres chart before falling into #4 for worldwide pre-order sales.

This is a big deal for the Vendetta artiste, who recently secured his place in history when he became the first Jamaican and Caribbean artiste to perform on streaming service Audiomack’s Acoustic, visual series. Alkaline performed the song “Cree,” which is one of the 14 tracks to be featured on his upcoming album.

The performance, which is featured on Audiomack’s YouTube channel, is #6 on Trending in Jamaica and has more than 238,000 views.

In another history-making move, the “Ocean Wave” singer also became the face of Spotify’s first Caribbean-focused playlist. The “Back A Yard” playlist was released following Spotify’s major expansion into 83 additional countries.

In addition to the track titled “Top Prize,” Alkaline’s album will feature works such as “Medicine,” “Payroll,” “Ocean Wave,” “More Life,” “Hostage,” and “Cree.” Fans are already debating and forecasting which track will be their favorite.

“Top Prize,” the single, has already been making waves of its own, amassing millions of streams across multiple platforms. The song has over 2.5 million views on YouTube alone.

Alkaline’s PR rep, Shuzzr, told Urban Islandz, “The level of artistry, growth and dominance Alkaline has demonstrated over the years is incomparable. As an independent artist he continues to break barriers globally and expand the genre’s footprint in mainstream and new media markets; in the coming weeks he will give fans a ‘soulful jam’ of tracks. Our client’s product and approach is meticulous and the results can be seen from the respect and support he receives from his fans worldwide.”

Shuzzr added, “The level of artistry, growth and dominance Alkaline has demonstrated over the years is incomparable.”

Alkaline says that the project is a reflection of his growth and experience after being in the music industry for a decade. “This album is timely as with my experiences, the lessons learned and growth overtime, it is only fair that I bring everything full circle,” Alkaline told us. “All the Detta fans who have been a part of the movement from day one will appreciate it and even those who have just come to realize the fact will enjoy it… It bad! Lol.”

Alkaline’s debut album “New Level Unlocked” peaked at #1 on the Billboard Reggae chart in 2016. It also spent 18 consecutive weeks on the chart. With fans already showing heavy support for “Top Prize,” it will be interesting to see how it truly compares in the coming weeks.

Alkaline Makes Historic Appearance On Audiomack’s “Fine Tuned”

Dancehall artists always look forward to milestones in their career, but very few can say that they created history for the genre. That’s just what Alkaline will do today as he will become the first hardcore dancehall act to go live on Audiomack’s hit live performance series Fine Tuned.

It seems the artist, whose real name is Earlan Bartley, is making a reemergence as this performance comes on the heels of his announcement that he is preparing to drop his second full-length album, Top Prize.

Alkaline‘s manager, who is also his sister, Kereena Beckford, spoke about the upcoming performance. Beckford said that she was proud of her brother’s hard work and admired the fact that he is always trying to break new ground for dancehall globally.

“It’s going to be special. It will be him and one acoustic guitar and he will be performing (the singles) Cree and Ocean Wave. It’s a big deal for dancehall music because the Fine Tuned programme largely features hip-hop artistes. He will be the first hardcore dancehall artiste to perform on the series and I am excited for the fans to see it,” she said.

Fine Tuned, follows a similar format to the popular 90s hit MTV Unplugged and features artists with a live instrumentalist for a more personal feel when delivering hits. Many well-known artists have already appeared in the series, including Akon, Ne-Yo, and Lil Durk. Kranium, who has a different catalog of music, is the only other Jamaican act to be featured in the series, and that was back in 2019.

Alkaline’s next album is expected to drop May 14 and follows his first one back in 2016 called New Level Unlocked. He’s stuck to the format that he knows, and Top Prize features 14 singles. Fans can expect a “discography of music that is suited for all demographics.”

Beckford said that she believed that Alkaline’s hard work and dedication over the years will come across on this album.

“He has been working over the years and it’s always a good feeling to have a complete package and something that is a project that’s well-executed,” she said. “His fans will be very appreciative of what he has put together. I love it. I am a proud manager and sister to the artiste and talent that is Alkaline.”

Alkaline Nabs Pandora’s Reggae Now Playlist Cover As “Top Prize” Debut No. 1 On iTunes

Alkaline debuts at the top of the iTunes chart with her new song, “Top Prize,” after picking up the cover of Pandora’s Reggae Now playlist.

Alkaline has dropped some good news that his fans are sure to love as he announced that a new album is coming! We haven’t seen much of Alkaline, but we have heard him with hits like ‘Cree’ and ‘Ocean Wave’ released last year, but one thing’s for sure, any prolonged absence is usually a good thing for Alka, who doesn’t seem to fraternize much with the rest of dancehall.

In past times, the lyricist has been compared to the great Vybz Kartel, and there have been many so-called manufactured beef started by fans of the two artists. However, in spite of that, one thing we can agree on is appreciating good music, and Alkaline has never failed to deliver, so there are high hopes for his upcoming album.

According to Alkaline, whose real name is Earlan Bartley, the new project has 14 tracks and is named Top Prize.

He explains the motivation behind the name “[top prize] represents when you win a competition, basically showcasing victory against all odds. This album is timely with the opportunities I have been given, lessons learned along the way, my personal growth and experiences…experience teaches wisdom, so it is only fair that I bring everything full circle.

Alkaline’s debut album New Level Unlocked was released in 2016. It peaked at No. 1 and spent 18 weeks on the Billboard Reggae Chart. In spite of only releasing one album, his singles have also driven up enviable numbers! ‘ATM,’ released in 2020, has 23 million streams on YouTube. His streaming presence surpasses 30 million streams- on digital streaming platforms like Spotify- Canada, United States, the UK, African, and Germany.

He also retains a strong presence on Pandora with 39 million streams, which covers both radio and app, and has about 140,000 monthly listeners.

On Friday, Pandora Music made ‘The Man Himself’ as he is often called- the cover of the new Reggae Now playlist as he shared that the album is among the lineup.

He also has a preview of Apple Music released on Friday. The song that’s featured is called “Single” and starts with the popular Jamaican phrase “wha nuh dead nuh dash weh.”

Meanwhile, the female Detta fans are also loving the artiste’s new look, which shows him sporting natural hair plaited into sections and also sporting a neatly lined bushy beard!
