Yungeen Ace Details His Encounter With 6ix9ine At His Show

Yungeen Ace is continuing to deny that he had a run-in backstage with fellow rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine during the rapper’s concert.

In and Instagram live stream with DJ Akademiks, 6ix9ine claimed that Florida rapper Yungeen Ace was backstage his show in Miami last week. 6ix9ine also claimed that the rapper, who he’s had beef with, walked right by him and did not step to him.

The beef between the two first started when Yungeen Ace called out Tekashi 6ix9ine for snitching and said he didn’t respect him. Ace did make a point, however, that he would work with 6ix9ine if given the opportunity as it was just business. Needless to say, the comment didn’t sit well with Tekashi, who was recently released from prison after serving a reduced sentence in exchange for his testimony which implicated several members of his former gang.

Speaking in the interview with DJ Akademiks, Tekashi said, “F*ck all that. Yungeen Ace was at my show yesterday. F*ck all of the things that we talking about. Street rappers were at my show yesterday. If they want the static, I was there. He was at the show. He was backstage, he seen me, everything.”

The “Who I Smoke” rapper responded to Tekashi on his Instagram story, sharing the post with 6ix9ine’s claim and writing, “Mann dis ni**a so cap bra [laughing emoji]..wdf.”

Yungeen Ace’s denial story was sadly short-lived, as DJ Akademiks, who the rapper has also had beef with, later dug up a photo that showed the rapper was indeed at the Trillerfest event where Tekashi performed.

Yungeen Ace later explained the encounter in a live stream, saying he did see Tekashi, but the encounter did not quite happen how 6ix9ine said it did.

In the video, Ace said, “that ni**a was scared as f**k man.. then the nigga said he ain’t know me but he seen me in there. These ni**as trippin. This ni**a was in a car. This ni**a rolled past only time I seen this guy.”

Ace went on to say that Tekashi was masked up, with his chains tucked, and he was basically hiding in his car.

Fans have since been calling out Ace, stating that he’s a straight-up liar. One user commented, “Thought he wasn’t there?” while another added, “You said you never seen him.”

On the other hand, one Tekashi 6ix9ine supporter declared, “THEY ALL TALK HOT ON THE INTERNET BUT CAN’T EVEN TOUCH HIM IN REAL LIFE.”

Fans are now anxiously awaiting 69’s response to the ‘he said, he said’ saga.

Fans Reacts To Jay-Z Reflecting His Regrets About “Big Pimpin” In 2010

Comments by Jay-Z in a 2010 interview have gone viral that the rapper “regrets” the lyrics in his single “Big Pimpin’.”

However, while many news outlets ran with the headlines, it seems that those comments are misconstrued from an old interview by Jay-Z done in 2010. Of course, of late, most of the news about Jay-Z surrounds his business acumen and financial moves, including the latest sale of his share in Tidal to Jack Dorsey’s Square.

He has also been trending on Twitter for his performance on DJ Khaled’s latest album “Khaled Khaled’. Now, it seems that fans are concerned that the rapper could be regretting the lyrics to one of his biggest singles at the heights of his career.

One news article on the internet said the rapper “regretted” his Big Pimpin’ lyrics. It cited Beyonce’s husband and father of three, saying he can’t believe he said those things. However, at no point did Jay-Z ever say that. The internet was abuzz with discussions about the purported “regrets” as they proclaimed their love for the song.

However, the interview that the news article actually referred to is one done in 2010 with the Wall Street Journal in which Jay-Z talked about his book Decoded as well as his songwriting skills. At no point did he ever say he regretted making the song or using those lyrics, a dedicated fan page pointed out.

It added that HOV has also performed the songs many times over the past years since the song’s release.

A snippet of the interview online was posted where the Wall Street Journal asked Jay-Z, “you’re famous for not writing your lyrics down as you compose them. What changes about them when you see them on the page like this?”

Jay-Z is then quoted replying: “Some [lyrics] become really profound when you see them in writing. Not ‘Big Pimpin’. That’s the exeption. It was like I can’t believe I said that. And kept saying it. What kind of animal would say this sort of thing? Reading it is really harsh,” he said.

It appears that Jay-Z was saying he was shocked at seeing the lyrics actually on paper. But while some were quick to call the rapper misogynistic for the lyrics, others instead focused on the fact that he did not, in fact, say he regrets them as was reported by the online news publication.

Meanwhile, some fans praised the song as one of the biggest rap tunes ever made, while some also condemned the rapper for the lyrics, which seemed to promote the ill-treatment of women.

This is #ClickBait

This is being reported as new when it's actually from a 2010 Wall Street Journal interview where JAY-Z talked about his book Decoded and his songwriting. No where did he say he regrets making "Big Pimpin'"

He has performed the song countless times since then https://t.co/OBzg55gzzv pic.twitter.com/LgGIgwVsz9

Honestly prefer big pimpin Jay-z over financial literacy Jay-z https://t.co/6wYywyxbGn

— art doll ? (@meowmanifesto) May 3, 2021

Jay-Z is 51 year old married father of 3 kids, it makes sense for him to regret Big Pimpin. It’s still my favorite hit single from him though.

— Dedee ? (@thoughtfulbae) May 3, 2021

Relax. Big Pimpin will be played at my wedding. https://t.co/ccPHfkOGC7

— Taylor. (@Tater_Tottt) May 3, 2021

According to Genius here is a portion of Jay-Z’s verse on “Big Pimpin.”

You know I thug ’em, f*** ’em, love ’em, leave ’em
‘Cause I don’t f***in’ need ’em
Take ’em out the hood, keep ’em lookin’ good
But I don’t f***in’ feed ’em
First time they fuss I’m breezin’
Talkin’ bout, “What’s the reasons?”
I’m a pimp in every sense of the word, bitch
Better trust than believe ’em
In the cut where I keep ’em
‘Til I need a nut, ’til I need to beat the guts
Then it’s, beep beep and I’m pickin’ ’em up
Let ’em play with the dick in the truck
Many chicks want to put Jigga fist in cuffs
Divorce him and split his bucks
Just be’cause you got good head, I’m a break bread
So you can be livin’ it up?

Govana And Fivio Foreign Link Up For A “Movie”

Govana and Fivio Foreign drop the visual for their new collaboration, “Movie.”

While Jamaica remains under curfew, the dancehall hitmaker traveled to Brooklyn to shoot the video with fast-rising New York rapper Fivio Foreign. The JLShotThat-directed cut saw Govi pulling up to a block party where Fivio and his crew were enjoying refreshments with plenty of females strutting their stuff. The cut was shot last month, and the two artists have been teasing it over the past several weeks.

“See me out with me army we do this all day / Nineties to conace nah say floss yeah / Hallow tip in a the cartridge fi the 40 / Me a roll with some Haitians so braff yeah / Get paid in six figure tell a b*tch ni**a / Next time address me by me last name,” Govana spits.

Govana has cemented himself as one of the leading artists of the current generation of dancehall acts. The 4th Genna deejay has been steadily building out his catalog over the past few years while showing both class and experience anytime he decides to put out a record.

Fivio Foreign spent the last decade steadily building a name for himself in the hip hop scene. He was originally known as Lite Fivio while rapping in the underground scene in New York, but would later change his name to Fivio Foreign in 2013. The move proved to be good for the now 31-year-old rapper who has since scored some big hits, including his appearance on Drake’s “Demons” last year, which peaked at 34 on the Hot 100 chart.

G Herbo Hit With New Charge For Lying To Feds in Fraud Case: Reports

The U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts has filed another charge against G Herbo as his fraud case gets underway.

G Herbo, whose real name is Herbert Wright III, has been charged for lying and failing to notify authorities that he is familiar with one of his co-defendants in the ongoing fraud case. Herbo allegedly lied to a federal agent while he was being interviewed.

According to the authorities, Herbert Wright III, also known as Herbo, Lil Herb and G Herbo-(his most common rap moniker), and ‘Herbert Light,’ “knowingly and willfully made the following materially false, fictitious and fraudulent statements and representations in a matter within the jurisdiction of the executive branch of the Government of the United States, that is, during a voluntary interview with a special agent of the United States Secret Service and a special agent of the (FBI),” the document reads, according to The Shade Room.

The co-defendant in question is Antonio Strong, who is a known friend and business associate of G Herbo. The charges read that G Herbo did not tell the federal agent interviewing him that he gave Strong money nor that he received anything of value from him, and he also denied a direct connection to Strong.

The FBI alleges that G Herbo and Strong have been friends since 2016, and the two shared a close relationship with frequent contact. It is also alleged that he gave Strong money and received “private jet charters, luxury accommodations, and exotic car rentals” from him in exchange.

Now, the authorities are moving to connect the current charge against Herbo to the original fraud case. There should be no issues with doing this, as Herbo had signed an earlier document approving this. It’s unclear what his defense position is regarding the new charge.

The rapper is slated to return to court as he answers to the charges, which alleged that he is part of a multimillion fraud ring that used stolen credit card information to pay for luxury items, including a lavish vacation to Jamaica last year. His ex-girlfriend Ari Fletcher is reportedly a prosecution witness in the case.

On the iTunes platform, “Top Prize” secured the top prize, peaking at number 1 on the US Reggae Album chart. It also peaked at the #2 spot on the global all genres chart before falling into #4 for worldwide pre-order sales.

This is a big deal for the Vendetta artiste, who recently secured his place in history when he became the first Jamaican and Caribbean artiste to perform on streaming service Audiomack’s Acoustic, visual series. Alkaline performed the song “Cree,” which is one of the 14 tracks to be featured on his upcoming album.

The performance, which is featured on Audiomack’s YouTube channel, is #6 on Trending in Jamaica and has more than 238,000 views.

In addition to the track titled “Top Prize,” Alkaline’s album will feature works such as “Medicine,” “Payroll,” “Ocean Wave,” “More Life,” “Hostage,” and “Cree.” Fans are already debating and forecasting which track will be their favorite.

Lol.”

Alkaline’s debut album “New Level Unlocked” peaked at #1 on the Billboard Reggae chart in 2016. It also spent 18 consecutive weeks on the chart. With fans already showing heavy support for “Top Prize,” it will be interesting to see how it truly compares in the coming weeks.

J. Cole Reveals “The Off-Season” Release Date & Album Cover Art

J. Cole is in The Off-Season mode.

The highly anticipated album will be released on May 14th, according to the latest announcement from the Dreamville rapper. J. Cole has been teasing the album The Off Season for the past few weeks, but this is the most conclusive message we have to date that the project is finally coming. He highlighted his long absence, saying that the album has been years in the works.

“Just know this was years in the making,” Cole tweeted on Tuesday (May 4th) while sharing the cover art of himself standing beside a burning basketball hoop. “My new album The Off-Season available everywhere 5/14.”

Fans are already trying to decode the burning hoop. Last week Friday (April 30th), J. Cole gave fans a rare update on the project via his Instagram Story. Needless to say, he appears quite upbeat about what he heard, saying, “Just rode through the city to The Off-Season. Dawg… Too excited.”

Just know this was years in the making.

— J. Cole (@JColeNC) May 4, 2021

The Off-Season is the follow-up to J. Cole’s 2018 album KOD, which saw huge commercial success despite not a single feature being on the album. It will be interesting to see if this project will have any guest features. Don’t hold your breath for that either.

KOD has since been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after selling more than a million copies by the end of 2018.

The Off-Season is perhaps the most anticipated hip-hop album this year, along with Drake’s forthcoming project, Certified Lover Boy, which has yet to receive a release date. This is shaping up to be a clash of the titans as both Drake and J. Cole have been at the top of the game over the past decade, although we can argue Drizzy more so than any other rapper.

Jada Kingdom Finds A Way To Drop New Music Amid Lawsuit

When you can’t beat them, join them. It seems dancehall singjay Jada Kingdom has decided to follow this old adage in hopes of getting away from her current record label. She’s reportedly found a loophole that she believes will help her to start back releasing new music as she continues to battle against her former manager.

Earlier this year, in February, she opened up about some of the obstacles she was facing. She also let fans know that she wouldn’t be releasing music anytime soon, mostly because of what she called “industry politics” and a lack of management.

The “Green Dreams” singer has somehow found a way to put out new music. She elatedly shared the news with her followers on Instagram yesterday (May 3).
“Since I can’t release any new music yet, mi aguh remix some of my fav songs right now,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. “Let’s go crazy!” she added. She also revealed what the first remix would be.

Jada shared that the first remix, due any day now, will be “D’yani’s Feelings,”. As with most loopholes, there’s a catch. “The artist of the original song will be uploading my remix,” Jada Kingdom said, before adding “YOUTUBE ONLY. Badmind yuh cyah stop mi!!!”

RELATED: Jada Kingdom Hit With Defamation Lawsuit By Her Manager

Jada Kingdom received a lot of media attention recently, mostly because of an ongoing legal battle with her former management team, Pop Style. She was with the company for the last four years. Even though it’s not clear when they became angry with each other, the company has already filed a defamation lawsuit against the artist. The lawsuit, which was filed last month, claims that she allegedly made libelous remarks about them during an Instagram Live video.

During that Live, Jada shared her excitement about having found a new management team.

“Mi excited fi see how everything a go turn out. Mi cya wait fi drop new music,” she said. “Mi waiting, just ready fi go crazy as I should have been doing from day f**king one… There’s just so much sh*t and how mi get by is creating music, laughing, see the good inna everything regardless. Everything a go work out,” she continued.

Drake Laughs At Moneybagg Yo For His Government Name

It seems that Drake forgets how strange real names can sound especially when it doesn’t match up to the music persona and monikers artists choose for themselves.

In a lighthearted comment, Drake poked fun at Moneybagg Yo‘s real name as the rapper shared that Music Choice was playing his Billboard No. 1 album A Gangsta’s Pain where they also revealed his real name.

Moneybagg Yo was not amused by that move by Music Choice, which asked, “DID YOU KNOW? Moneybagg Yo’s real name is Demario Dewayne White Jr.”

“Police as hell… what the f*** wrong with y’all, Music Choice? Get this s**t right. Appreciate the love but damn! Talking about, did y’all know his real name?”

Never mind, the information might satisfy curious fans. Some folks thought the reaction was funny, including Drake, who poked fun at his names. “DD White mayne” Drake posted on an Akademiks post of Moneybagg Yo’s video along with four laughing emojis.

A post shared by DJ Akademiks (@akademiks)

Fans, though, were quick to check Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham. Of course, Drake’s name has been the butt of many jokes and the source of quite a few hilarious memes on the internet, especially as his earlier acting career surfaced. Many felt that his name gave him a sort of “softie” look that some even tried to use it to diminish his musical achievements.

However, the rapper has said that aside from being the second most memed person after the Michael Jordan crying face, he doesn’t mind the jokes even if they’re on him as he likes to laugh at a good joke.

“I like laughing even if it’s at my expense. It doesn’t feel like it’s necessarily malicious or hurtful stuff. I’m conscious of it,” he said during an Instagram interview in 2016.

Mavado Taps IVoltage For “Never Go Win”

A month after he gave fans the anthem “Never Give Up,” Mavado is back with another inspirational track. The artiste officially released his single “Never Go Win” on YouTube today (April 30).

Like “Never Give Up”, Mavado’s latest track gives off a reggae vibe and is all about the positive. The Tommy G production, which is distributed by Zojak Worldwide, also features upcoming artiste IVoltage.

The rhythm builds up slowly and features the harmony that complements Mavado’s smooth voice. Coupled with sharp and well-delivered lyrics from IVoltage, the song has hit potential.

The lyrics reference the troubles that the world has been facing in the past year, which should make it very relatable for those who’ve encountered struggles due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the opening of the song, IVoltage says, “Whole heep a f***ery gwaan last year still enuh, yuh know,” and let’s just say we can all relate.

The song’s lyrics also pay homage to Mavado’s mother, who recently passed away when she died in hospital in March. The entertainer sings, “Mama though yuh gone, yuh legacy live on. Watch over yuh son, see when mi troubles a come.”

Ultimately it is a feel-good motivational song that will have listeners pressing the repeat button.

Fans have already started sharing positive reactions to the song. One YouTube user commented, “Dem neva go WIN. Another classic from the Gad.” A second user wrote, “Finally!!!!! From it preview me been a wait on it an gully gad neva disappoint.”

Tekashi 6ix9ine Honors XXXTentacion And Ski Mask the Slump God Reacts

Tekashi 6ix9ine pays homage to XXXTentacion at his concert last weekend but Ski Mask The Slump God isn’t impressed.

The self-proclaimed King of New York, Daniel Hernandez, better known as Tekashi 6ix9ine is not well-liked in many rap circles. However, he still has many supporters. The rapper is currently in Florida at a music festival where he performed in front of a whopping 15,000 fans. While this concert defied the usual social distancing guidelines, this is not what is most surprising.

It was 6ix9ine’s tribute to fellow rapper XXXTentacion that caught everyone off guard. This is not the first time 6ix9ine has done a tribute for X as he memorialized him right after his passing in 2018.

The late alternative rapper Jahseh Onfroy, more popularly known as XXXTentacion and typically referred to as X, was from Miami-Dade County. He had a massive cult following which he built from his SoundCloud and his social media accounts. Millions of fans around the world mourned his untimely passing back in June 2018.

At this recent festival, 6ix9ine referred to X as the King of Florida and played X’s “Look At Me!”. He did not perform the song in its entirety but rather recited some of the lyrics while moshing on stage.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by DJ Akademiks (@akademiks)

This was typically well-received by his fans, who thought the tribute was heartfelt. Even those who were not fans of the New York rapper lauded him for the tribute on social media. However, one rapper was not impressed. X’s best friend Ski Mask The Slump God made his displeasure known on Twitter.

“Random N****s That Perform Take A Step Back Or Look At Me But Only Know The First Three Lines,” The Slump God tweeted.

Random Niggas That Perform Take A Step Back Or Look At Me But Only Know The First Three Lines ???

— Sir Ski Mask (@THESLUMPGOD) May 2, 2021

It is unclear whether the “Catch Me Outside” rapper’s tweet was intended for Tekashi 6ix9ine, as he did not directly call him out. If this tweet is for 6ix9ine, it is obvious that Ski Mask views this performance as being disrespectful. Regardless, this tribute seems to have gotten him in the good graces of many who were not fond of him before.

As fans sings him high praises, many of them are also highlighting how petty 6ix9ine is and are anxious to see his response to Ski Mask. Tekashi is known for his legendary trolling skills, and the rapper consistently stays embroiled in endless beefs.

Following his release from prison last year, 6ix9ine shared a screenshot of some DMs XXXTentacion sent him before his death the year before.

Unruly Cuz Drops Alleged Popcaan Diss Track Amid Rift In Unruly Camp

There may be some trouble in the Unruly Camp.

Rumors have been circulating in the media for the past few months about a possible rift between Popcaan and a protege by the name of Unruly Cuz. Neither of the entertainers has publicly confirmed or denied the rumors. Despite this, fans and critics alike have been scurrying through the lyrics of some of their most recent releases for confirmation. It turns out that at least two popular songs should probably be labeled as diss tracks if we are to take the words of Jamaica’s Viral King and other sources as gospel.

Foota Hype was one of the first persons to reveal that things may not be going well in Popcaan’s Unruly Camp. The selector, who shares strong connections in the dancehall industry, revealed in a live Instagram video that the Unruly Boss and producer Markus were apparently not seeing eye to eye. Foota went on to explain a viral voice note in which Markus was urging Popcaan to repair his Toyota Mark X motorcar that was allegedly damaged in an accident by Popcaan’s friend.

Foota noted that Popcaan refused to repair the vehicle and an argument allegedly ensued between the two. He added that it was from this incident that the friendship between Popcaan and Unruly Cuz, who is presumed to be the person who was behind the wheels of the car when it crashed, went sour. He made reference to Popcaan’s first single for 2021, “Relevant,” citing it as a diss song amid the situation.

“..inna di song weh him say yuh vex wid man over mark x and still a go round and a make link off a my name, mi hear say a Unruly Cuz him a talk. Cause him an Cuz kick off….but nuff people think a Markus cause a Markus Mark X… but a supm weh fi do wid di Mark X crashing make him an Unruly Cuz inna argument,” Foota explained.

In the song “Relevant,” Popcaan said, “Never know ah Mark X coulda mek yuh move different……And still go ah road and ah use mi strength.”

Fans have speculated that the artiste could be referring to Unruly Cuz still using his title “Unruly” in his name and also to produce his songs. Unruly Cuz’s April 27 single “Life Lessons” also stemmed from the alleged fallout between the two.

“Mount a things weh mi do fi dem… cant count.. Still dem we take yuh life but mi a look fi dem, Jah a show mi dem,” he sings. “Life lesson, mi live and mi learn, some bwoy never real to di ting an everything confirm.”

No names were mentioned in either of the tracks, but fans are leaning towards the idea that both songs were definitely throwing shade. It was also noted that Popcaan and Unruly Cuz are no longer following each other on Instagram.

Jada Kingdom reveals she’s battling bipolar depression as she pushed back at critics over her weight loss.

Jada Kingdom hit back at critics who have accused her of being on drugs. The criticism came after the “Best You Ever Had” singer posted several photos of her during a night out, looking slimmer than usual.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, the singer sent a harsh message to the naysayers. She wrote, “Note to hypocrites : F** YU! Guh look fi ah dog and s**k it hard. Still not satisfied with that post, Jada went on to address the issue further in her Instagram stories. In a series of videos, she vented, saying, “Hypocrites, hypocrites, get out of my DMs. Mi literally just see two female DM me basically saying don’t mind social media, and don’t follow what people ah say.. And dem two same page deh mi literally screenshot over another page ah done mi bout how yeah mon she deh pon coke fi true.. Look how she slim down and s**k out like bag juice.”

She expressed, “Mi no want nuh hypocrites as friends, family or fans, jus move from round mi..Come outta mi DM.”

She then jokingly added, “well call me cokehead Twinks cuz I love it here…mi love ova yah suh, mi love dis fi miself… Mi never happy so yet, a right yah suh mi a siddung and mi nah move.”

“Mi woulda understand if unuh see mi draw down inna the space of one month but a good two year now mi a go gym, mi a try eat right, mi switch to being pescatarian, mi leggo rice, mi a dis, mi a dat. Go s**k unuh madda,” she added.

Despite the negative criticisms, not everyone has been critical of the singer’s new body. Fans on Twitter have been showing her love with several reposting her latest images.

This is not the first time that Jada has addressed critics about her weight. In September last year the singer who at one point weighed 224 pounds wrote, “Yes, mi born big, mi born big, a wah? Yes mi was 17, mi born humungous, live with it!” This was after social media users commented on a video of her in a store, calling her out for being overweight.

Jada Kingdom is opening up about her struggles with bipolar depression and has been very opened to her fans about her struggles with weight, being sexually abused at a young age, and other hardships she faced growing up in Jamaica. Dancehall veteran Spice, took the time to show Jada love and support, commenting under her various posts and her subsequent clap-back to the critics. Spice herself has experience of this type of criticism from trolls online. She has faced a lot of negative comments for her weight and skin color over the years and has always been very vocal about it.

While Jada Kingdom is no stranger to hate mail on social media, it’s certainly a positive to see her facing it head on and getting the support not just from her fans, but also from her peers in the industry like Spice.

Quando Rondo Shot At, Friend Wounded After Show In Georgia

Quando Rondo was shot at and his friend wounded following a show in Georgia over the weekend.

The Savannah rapper has been a moving target ever since King Von was shot and killed in November last year following a fight between the two outside a nightclub in Atlanta. Although Quando Rondo has maintained that Vin’s death was a case of self-defense, that is not enough to remove the target from off his back. As a result, he has been driving around heavily armed in a bulletproof vehicle with plenty of bodyguards.

It seems his enemies are moving closer following a shooting incident last weekend where Rondo was shot at, and a bullet struck one member of his entourage, TMZ reported. Law enforcement sources say gunfire erupted outside a convenience store off a highway in Georgia in Blackshear.

The attack took placed at approximately 3:20 AM on Sunday while the rapper and his entourage were standing in the parking lot. Quando Rondo and his crew had already left the scene when police arrived. There are no reports of any bullets hitting Rondo, but one member of his crew with hit by a bullet in his hand and got treatment at a local hospital.

Cops say that Quando and his large entourage made a quick stop at the convenience store before shots started firing at them, possibly from across the street.

Interestingly, Quando Rondo performed in front of a small crowd at The Vibe Event Center in Waycross, Georgia, over the weekend. His performance comes after several of his shows were canceled due to threats of violence. A noticeable small crowd was also at the event, a sign that fans are also concerned about possible violence breaking out at his events.

Bounty Killer Cosigns Senator Damion Crawford’s Take On Dancehall & Crime

Bounty Killer seconds a Jamaican senator’s take on the correlation between crime and music.

The ongoing debate in Jamaica concerning the impact of dancehall music on the country’s high crime rate has welcomed opinions and arguments from figures in both the entertainment and political industry. While the members of the proposition and opposition seemed to be clearly established as the government and dancehall community, respectively, a opposition senator recently did an interview on a very popular music entertainment platform where he shared an opposing view to the Prime Minister Andrew Holness’s controversial take.

According to Damion Crawford, who is the vice president of the opposition political party, there are no statistics to support the notion that music has negatively affected the crime rate, not just in Jamaica but anywhere.

In his recent interview with On-Stage’s Winford Williams, Crawford said the government’s attempt to lobby the public to believe dancehall music has influenced crime, particularly murder is baseless and makes for an excuse for the industry to continue to suffer from a lack of government support.

“If it is positioned in the minds of the public that it is a negative industry, that is a covid contributor, that it is a crime contributor, it’s a murder contributor then that impetus, that push to have government protect it will not come,” he said. “And the government will always have a satisfactory excuse to the public to say this is why we have not embraced this industry in the same way first place.”

He continued, “So that is why I’m out here to say that all the signs suggest that there is no true causal relationship between music and crime – in particular murder.” He went on to say countries like the United Kingdom, Norway, and the United States have done the research as it relates to rap music and other genres affecting national crime rates, and it yielded the result that there is no correlation.

An excerpt from Crawford’s interview with On-Stage has been circulating online since it premiered on national television. Bounty Killer was among those influencers who reshared the clip on Instagram, making light of the strong argument that in the grand scheme of things, dancehall is but a scapegoat in a much larger issue that the government does not appear to have a handle on.

A post shared by BOUNTY KILLER (@grunggaadzilla)

Like many other dancehall artists, Bounty Killer has previously acknowledged the government and Prime Minister attributing the crime spike to music in his social media posts where he strongly disagreed that dancehall is to be blamed. In November 2020, the deejay highlighted major contributors to the crime during a speech at a conference with members of the Jamaica security force. He pointed out some social issues that drive the crime rate up, including unemployment, impoverished communities, a lack of morals, stable homes, parents, and self-worth.

As Damion Crawford suggested in his recent interview, the government could be laying the foundation for an excuse to perpetuate their lack of positive attention and funding to dancehall music. Ironically, Bounty Killer believes all the funding that goes towards national security is hardly a fix as he believes the high crime rate is a matter of social dysfunction in the society rather than a critical security issue. The dancehall veteran says in order to really start tackling the root of the crime epidemic in Jamaica, a sharper focus should be placed on social development.

What’s your take on the role of dancehall music in society and the ongoing debate on whether its influence has been negatively impacting the crime rate?

NLE Choppa Speak Out After Brawl At Venice Beach: “I eat punches”

NLE Choppa and his crew were captured on camera beating down a man at Venice Beach and now he’s speaking out.

NLE Choppa is supposedly a changed man seeking a more spiritual path. He’s even let fans into his sort of Zen vegetable garden, showing a softer side of himself. Or at least that’s the new image that he’s trying to project, but it seems he still has quite a violent streak even though he might explain the issue differently. The 18-year-old was caught on tape recently getting into it during a physical altercation in Venice Beach. His entourage was part of the massive throwdown.

The video shows Choppa and his crew strolling the beach when they seem to get into an argument with another man. The issue got heated quickly, and violence ensued. In the video, the man was stopped with his scooter on the pedestrian path before getting into the altercation with the young rapper and his crew. Choppa gets extremely agitated and tries to evade his security detail to try and throw a punch. Not long after, the rapper and his entire crew were seen beating down on the man. The saddest part of the video is that the man is by himself. People who gathered at the scene implored the group to stop the fight because it wasn’t a fair one.

It’s not possible to make out what started the fight from the video. However, according to NLE Choppa, the issue had to do with the man in the video being a fan and asking for a picture. Choppa refused, and according to him, the fight broke out.

“Damn y’all never got hit in a fight before ? bruh asked for picture I said no I’m enjoying my self and I get called scary and a bitch. I make sure I take pictures with every fan but some days I just be trying to chill and get disrespected in the process,” he explained on Twitter.

In another update, he tweeted: “And I eat punches ask bout me. Imma rush you take what you got to give and resume beating some. Honestly ain’t wanna fight I was just tryna walk the beach.”

The “Top Shotta” rapper has been having a rough time as of late. Just a little over a month ago, in late March, he was arrested on multiple charges. Following his arrest, he claimed that he was set up by the police, who he accused of planting drugs on him.

The Memphis native was arrested in Davie, Florida, and charged with carrying a concealed firearm, possession of Xanax, possession of cannabis, and burglary of an unoccupied structure. Police said they made the arrest after seeing what looked like a deal going down on a live camera feed.

Drake ‘Certified Lover Boy’ Session Allegedly Ended Singer 8-Year Relationship

Drake has a notorious reputation with women, and now, it seems that there’s more fuel to that rumor as a man is hinting that the OVO rapper had an affair with his fiancée, which lead to their 8-year engagement breaking up.

The fiancé of Noami Sharon sent social media into a frenzy on Monday after he accused Drake of causing the breakup. He says Naomi Sharon was unfaithful with the rapper.

In a lengthy post online, the man @Jamiessun says Naomi Sharon signed a record deal with Drake, and from there, things went south as the relationship fell apart. Naomi Sharon is one of the artists who have been photographed with Drake in Studio, and it’s suspected that she will appear on his Certified Lover Boy album.

“Imagine having the most beautiful, supportive, and faithful relationship 8 years long with an engagement and wedding planned. A beautiful woman on your side as ride or die. Than this major opportunity comes and a world star calls your fiancé to sign a record deal. Flies you both over and than out of nowhere all the trust is vanished with knifes in your back and in your heart,” wrote Naomi Sharon’s fiancé on Instagram.

It appears that following the failure of the relationship, Naomi Sharon has also been spotted elsewhere with Drake. The two have been seen at the gym together, which has confirmed things for the fiancé, a subreddit post has said.

While the fiancé has not named Drake, it seems that all of the references to his fiancée and her recent appearances alongside Drake caused fans to surmise that nobody but Drake is responsible for ending the happy home of the couple.

The fiancé also confirmed that the two have broken up in a follow-up post. “I am no longer with the person people think I am together with. I am no longer with the 8 years I thought I was together with.”

Kodak Black Says Sexual Assault Caused His Album Delay

Kodak Black says recent controversies surrounding his sexual assault case is to be blamed for his album delay.

The Pompano Beach rapper has announced that he is delaying the release of his forthcoming album due to the current controversies surrounding him. In a video posted on social media, the rapper said he was advised by his team to delay the release of the much-anticipated project, which would be his first since being released via a Donald Trump pardon.

“I wanted to give y’all an album but these platforms say it’s too much talk about this bulls**t and we should kinda wait, so can y’all please shut up,” Kodak tweeted.

On Wednesday, April 28, Kodak Black pleaded guilty to charges of assault and battery, rising from an incident in 2016 involving a high school student in Florence County, South Carolina. Prosecutors say Kodak pushed the girl into a wall and onto a bed before assaulting her in a hotel room.

Kodak Black had previously denied the allegations, but in court on Wednesday, he explained that he was trying to have a “romantic encounter” with the alleged victim. It is alleged that his attempts were not welcomed, and the student revealed that Kodak then bit her. The rapper agreed the claims were true.

He told the court, “I apologise. I’m hopeful we can all moved forward. I wish her the best in her life.”

The 23-year-old rapper, whose real name is Bill Kapri, received 18-months probation and a 10 year suspended prison sentence. He also agreed to attend counseling as a part of the negotiated plea. In addition, the court ordered that Kodak cannot drink alcohol, use drugs, or possess guns under the terms of his probation.

The rapper has had his fair share of run-ins with the law. He was previously sentenced to 46 months in prison over weapons charges before Trump pardoned him on his last day in office. Despite his troubles, the rapper has always come through with music for his fans. In 2018, he had a number one album in the U.S. Fans who were looking forward to the album are still appealing to him to release the project amid the controversy, or as they see it, the publicity.

One1Can Is Defiant Says Miss Kitty Started Beef By Promoting Gold Digging

One1Can and Miss Kitty’s public spat is probably heading to court after the dancehall artist refused to apologize for comments he made about the reality star. His take on the matter is that he hasn’t done anything wrong and that he’s an advocate for “bruk men” who also need love.

The “VIP Girl” singer returned to Onstage with Winford Williams to double down on his claims. According to One1Can, he and Miss Kitty went out twice. The first time he met her was through an acquaintance, and the second time they went out alone. He added that on the first occasion, all three of them went to a party at “Peppers,” and on the second occasion, they went out alone. He added that information was “irrefutable.”

“Everything that I said is true and accurate and they have defamed me by circulating a letter that says I am a liar, that says that I concocted the entire story. Now that is defamation,” he continued. He’s retained well-known lawyer Christopher Townsend to defend him in the matter, should it reach court. The aspiring artist added that he was not “stupid,” nor is he a liar. Should the matter reach court, he intends to counter sue for his own defamation.

He also rejected the claims from Miss Kitty’s legal team that he was doing all of this because he is looking for publicity.

“For it to have been a publicity stunt, I would have to initiate it. It was not initiated by me. It was initiated by Miss Kitty. The firestorm started with the letter. I had no control over what Miss Kitty would do so it couldn’t have been a publicity stunt. She chose to go to a lawyer to take out a letter to say she is gonna sue me,” he said. He went on to say that he was having a casual conversation with someone who told him that it was quite a story, and that’s why he even went public. At the end of the day, he was personally offended.

The contention between the two started on the same show after he claimed, among other things, that he was turned off after Miss Kitty ordered two meals during a date they supposedly had. He added that he opened up about what happened between them because miss Kitty had shamed him and was encouraging young women to become “gold diggers.”

“I have nothing to apologise for because I’ve done nothing wrong. So I don’t know what I would apologise for,” he said.

He added: “My engagement with Miss Kitty was in fact a response to what Miss Kitty was saying about me because she was on air on our national airwaves saying that women should avoid me. She was on our national airwaves saying that when a woman see me on one side of the road the woman must walk on the other side of the road.”

While he admitted she did not identify him by his name, he said he was sure that she was referring to him because she made the statements about “bruk man,” and he identifies as one. One1Can added that the matter has become personal to him, and he is now speaking up for all the “bruk man” out there who need love in spite of their financial situation. He also advised that young women not look up to Miss Kitty.

“Broke men we still need women, right, and I’m speaking up for all the ladies out there. I’m saying to the ladies don’t follow Miss Kitty. It is sad that our society has now reached to a place where someone can be using our national airwaves to advocate for gold-digging. To tell women that what they should do is go for rich men,” he continued.

He said her attitude could cause young men to go and look for illegal ways to make money to impress the women that they liked. He went further to say that Miss Kitty was looking down on poor people. He had some advice for men as well.

“Men your self worth is not determined by how much money you have, how much material things you have. Don’t feel less of a person because you don’t have money,” he said. Miss Kitty is contributing to a growing problem of how men view women, he added.

Pharrell Williams Put Heat On Labels: “No One Should Own You”

Pharrell Williams belies that labels are using advance payments to artists as an entrapment to own their creative works. The artist was speaking to Steve Stoute about the pitfalls of advance loans the devastating effect it has had on artists.

The discussions were centered on United Masters hosting SelectCon on Twitch in a two-day conference. CEO of United Master Steve Stoute and Pharrell Williams discussed various aspects of music and its operations as they discussed the problems arising from contracts with labels that are unfair to artists.

Many artists have come out to accuse labels of taking advantage of them with unfair deals and contracts, and this has led to many artists even forming their own record labels and distribution companies to avoid the issues with labels.

Among those who have complained are the likes of Kanye West, Teyana Taylor, Megan Thee Stallion, and many more artists who claim they have not received any income from their labels.

However, the issues are said to be stemming from the types of agreements that artists have with the labels, and now many new artists are falling into the trap of advances, especially.

In response to a question, Stoute asked Pharrell about what he thought of these advances. The experienced artist/producer and Stoute agreed that the way labels operate should be illegal.

“You shouldn’t walk into a company and say, ‘I’m gonna make this record.’ They give you an advance then for the tenure of that, the entire time you’re album’s out, you’re working to pay back that advance,” said Pharrell said. Stoute then interrupted to add, “It’s illegal.” Pharrell continued, “No bank gives a company a loan to start a company and walks away with the trademarks.”

According to Pharrell, “No one should own you. No one should own your actions. No one should own your creations. But you.”

https://www.instagram.com/reel/COQ8LeHjhNR/?utm_source=ig_embed

The current situation in the music industry has led to many artists suing their labels for unfair deals. The latest person to do so is Megan Thee Stallion, who alleged that her contract with 1501 Entertainment saw her receiving little to no income from her deal. The CEO of that label admitted to giving Megan a $10,000 advance. However, what he took in return was far more.

“we gave her a $10,000 advance when we first signed her and gave it to her mother. I don’t know what happened[with that]. 300 (the distribution company she had signed to) gave us $200,000 check when we first signed. I gave her $50,000 of it. I didn’t have to give her that. That was mine at the time,” he said in a Billboard interview.

In her initial lawsuit to void her 30 recording contract with 1501 Entertainment, Megan claims that she was only given $15,000 from the label after earning a billion streams and selling over 300,000 individual track downloads that estimate earnings of $7 million.

The matter is still before a court.

Tory Lanez Announces He And Chris Brown Joint Album

Tory Lanez and Chris Brown got a joint project on the way.

Any other artist might have crumbled under the type of pressure that Tory Lanez has had to face over the last year. Somehow, he’s been able to keep his career alive and thriving as well. Earlier this year, in March, he dropped off a new EP called Playboy. Since he brought it out, he’s been doing his best to promote it. That’s as best as an artist can do in these pandemic times. Like most others, he’s been doing most of the promotion online.

Even though he’s faced a lot of negative media since the Megan Thee Stallion shooting incident, he’s been able to keep his head above water. In 2020 he released his fifth studio album, Daystar, which debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200. The album was a brave one and actually explored his alleged shooting of the female rapper. Even though it made a strong debut, it did not receive a lot of media attention because of the controversial subject that he chose to tackle.

Yesterday night, May 1, he performed his latest album during a virtual live show. Following the show, he dropped some exciting news. While being interviewed by DJ Carisma, he revealed that he has an upcoming joint project with Chris Brown. His career also looks to be taking off in the right direction as he also shared that he would be dropping two new singles, and each one will have features from the rising rappers DaBaby and Yung Bleu.

While Lanez and Brown have been linked through music before, they’ve never attempted collaboration on this scale. One thing is for sure the two men are well-known and somewhat revered in the R&B space. Fans will surely be excited to see what they come up with when it drops.

J Cole Teases His New Album “The Off-Season” Says He’s “Too Excited”

J. Cole’s highly anticipated new album “The Off-Season” may be coming soon.

The Dreamville rapper teases the forthcoming project on his Instagram story on Saturday, May 1, sending fans into a frenzy. J. Cole expressed his excitement and anticipation for the release of the album on social media, writing, “Just rode through the city to The Off-Season. Dawg…” also adding a facepalm emoji. “Too excited,” he said.

The rap community has been awaiting the album for some weeks after the “Work Out” rapper revealed that he was cooking up something great for fans in the studio some months ago.

J. Cole just posted this on IG ?

DJ Akademiks had hinted that fellow rapper NBA YoungBoy was supposed to link with J.Cole sometime last month but did not show up. It has not yet been revealed which other artists will be featured on the project, as Cole seemed to have been so busy working that he did not reveal a lot of information about the album.

J. Cole has been wrapped up in recording the project for some months but had not revealed the official time set for the drop. Drizzy, however, was the person to inform the public about an album on the way, and whispers had emerged on social media from the camp. Still, neither Cole nor Kendrick had given any details of the project until now. Dreamville’s Bas had also revealed that the album would be coming in two weeks, just a few days ago.

Notably, three titles, including “It’s A Boy” and “The Fall Off,” were unveiled in a mysterious post shared to Cole’s Instagram. Some fans have speculated from these titles that the 36-year-old rapper might be retiring.

Nevertheless, fans are looking forward to the album drop in the coming weeks.

This month (May) is expected to be quite festive in the Hip Hop community. Just a few days ago, Top Dog Entertainment (TDE) had revealed that they have a major release come May 7th.

DJ Khaled managed to get four of the biggest legends in dancehall in one video fitting as an ode to Jamaican culture.

On the heels of the launch of his 12th studio album, DJ Khaled has dropped a new video for the single “Where You Come From.” The video for the song, which features a star-studded line-up of Reggae veterans, dropped on Saturday (May 1) on all major platforms. All these artists have NEVER collaborated on one record before. This is HISTORY. JAMAICA I LOVE YOU!”

The video showcases not just the best of Jamaica’s musical talent, but it also features some of the best visual views of Jamaica. The video opens with aerial views of lush green forestry and continues with breathtaking sights from all across the island. Jay-Z Finalized Tidal Deal With Jack Dorsey For Much Higher Than We Thought

Jay-Z has finally parted ways with Tidal as his 6-year majority ownership has come to an end, and the sale to the deal is finalized.

The deal was closed with Jay-Z earning $350 million from Square, a company that is owned by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, who also owns Twitter. It’s a solid return on his investment in Tidal, which he bought the struggling company in 2015 for $56 million in partnership with other artists who contributed. Among those who contributed to Tidal’s initial purchase are Beyonce, Rihanna, Kanye West, Madonna, Alicia Keys, Calvin Harris, Chris Martin, Damian Marley and others who all had 3% equity in the company.

Square is a financial services company, Dorsey, and is now in the music streaming business. Previously Tidal struggled against competition like Spotify and Apple Music. Both Dorsey and Jay-Z are friends and have been speculated to be planning business together.

In March, Dorsey announced that he planned to buy Tidal from the rap mogul. The deal was finally closed on Friday morning.

Under the deal, Square will get 80% ownership of Tidal- which is Jay-Z’s shares, as well as the many licensing deals the company has with major record labels. There will not be any changes to the artists/owners who will remain with the company too.

Jay-Z and Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez, who helped broker the deal, will be on Tidal’s Board of Directors to run the streaming company.

The rapper turned billionaire’s net worth is estimated to have grown by 40% with the Tidal sale. He previously recouped monies on his investment when he sold 33% of his Tidal shares to Sprint for $200 million in 2017.

Now that Tidal is in new hands, it leaves to be seen how the company will be run. When Jay-Z bought the company, it was aimed as an owned by artist company. The company paid 75% of royalties to musicians, producers, and songwriters. “Less profit for our bottom line, more money for the artist, fantastic,” he had said.

Keyshia Cole Baby Daddy Confirms Relationship With New Boo Ariel

Keyshia Cole’s baby daddy Niko Khale shared a photo of his new girlfriend.

The father of Keyshia Cole‘s second child, Niko Khale, is moving on with a brand new lady. Khale showed off the new woman in his life in a post on his Instagram page today (May 1). He posted an image of himself and the new lady all dressed up, alongside the caption, “Oh, and let me properly introduce my other half. Her name is Ariel, like the mermaid. She’s the universe in human form.”

Khale’s “coming out photo” has been met with harsh criticism from social media users. One commenter on Instagram said, “Still can’t believe Keyshia dated this man…he look like a child. he look like he ready for prom in this pic alone come on nowwe.” Other commenters were upset that the singer was dating a white woman. One user said, “Ofc it’s a white woman,” while another wrote, “He left a grown woman for a Caucasian adolescent.”

Niko and Keyshia welcomed their son in August 2019 after dating for approximately a year. During their relationship, critics regularly commented on the age gap between them. Cole was born in 1981, which would have made her around 36 years old at the time when they began dating. Khale was born in 1995, which means there’s a 14-year gap between the couple.

Cole once responded to criticism of their relationship in an Instagram post, saying, “Now the reason I’m posting The pepper to my salt @nikokhale is because he’s been such a sweetheart to me, and I kno people have been very judgmental about our relationship but I gotta nurture what nurtures me.” She also told a reporter who questioned the age gap that Khale was more mature than she was.

The couple called it quits in July 2020 after Cole went on a rampant deleting spree on her Instagram page. Following the breakup with Keyshia Cole, Niko Khale told a fan that he was heartbroken in response to a comment urging him to reconnect with the singer. He wrote, “My heart is broken. My mind is open. My times approachin.”

It’s safe to say, Niko is not so heartbroken anymore, and neither is Cole. Keyshia recently showed off a hickey from her new boo on social media. Last month the singer posted the photo of the hickey to her InstaStory, alongside the caption “Next time make it darker bae.” It’s not yet known who the lucky guy is.

As for Khale’s new bae, we know she’s a mother herself with a young son. A day before Niko posted the image of himself and his new girlfriend, his new boo posted the same photo alongside the caption, “What’s understood doesn’t need to be explained, but best believe our story will be told. Real recognize real & you King, are the realest. Nothing could ever compare to the love we share.. It’s only up from here #STUCK #MakeItLastForever.”

Keyshia has yet to speak on Niko’s new love interest, but fans are keeping their eyes peeled to social media.

While Tory Lanez’s parents hail from Barbados and Curaçao, he has an affinity for Jamaica. He has visited the island several times and has worked with local acts such as Buju Banton on the remix for “Trust,” Popcaan on Willie X.O’s “Comfort You,” Keznamdi through “City Lock,” and Kranium through their smash hit “We Can.” Tory’s hit “Luv” was also fashioned off Tanto Metro and Devonte’s 90s release “Everyone Falls In Love.” Aside from his dancehall refixes, Tory has also fashioned an entire mixtape catalog off reworking popular hip-hop tracks.

Skillibeng’s “Crocodile Teeth” has also earned him a major cosign from another Canadian native and one of the most decorated entertainers of the modern era, Drake. The 6God shared an image of himself listening to the track to his Instagram Story.

“Crocodile Teeth” was released in September 2020 and has been receiving heavy rotation in Jamaica and around the world. The official music video for the song has garnered more than 18 million views on YouTube.

Vybz Kartel Proclaims His Love For Shorty In New Song “Love Ya Babymom”

Vybz Kartel proclaims his love for Shorty in a new track dedicated to the mother of three of his children.

The dancehall hitmaker is showing love to the mother of his kids in a major way with the release of the official audio for his single “Love Ya Babymom.” The track was uploaded to his YouTube channel on April 29. The dedication to Tanesha is also a “Message to all real man,” as per the song’s lyrics.

Ironically, the song is produced by Short Boss Muzik, which is operated by the leading lady in question. In typical Vybz Kartel fashion, the song opens with him singing Tanesha’s name, he then goes into the chorus, which reflects on the couple’s time together.

Kartel sings, “Love Yah Baby Mom / Look how far me and Shorty coming from? / And I would do it all again with no regret.”

This is not the first time that the artist has dedicated a song to Shorty (Tanesha). In fact, he dedicated an entire album to her last year. The album “To Tanesha” was released on January 24, 2020, and peaked at #87 on the Billboard chart. It featured singles such as “Delusional” and “Fell Apart.”

Vybz Kartel and Tanesha have been together for approximately two decades and have three children together. Two of these children, Likkle Addi and Likkle Vybz, have also pursued music and have put out several singles of their own.

Despite several ups and downs, including the singer having several kids outside the relationship, Tanesha has stuck by his side. She has also held him down while he has been incarcerated. Kartel has already served more than 10 years in prison on a murder charge. His lawyers appealed the case in Jamaica’s Supreme Court but were unsuccessful. The entertainer is currently preparing to take his appeal to Jamaica’s highest court, which is the Privy Council in England.

Despite being incarcerated for the past decade, Kartel has produced several albums and dozens of singles. Melodically, “Love Ya Babymom” is a great production, even though it may not rank among some of Kartel’s best lyrical outputs.

The song has a great message as Teacha instructs men to cherish what they have while acknowledging that social media has painted a fake perception of what a relationship is truly like.

Romeich & Health Minister Tufton Debunks Vaccine Conspiracies On IG Live

Romeich Major is encouraging persons to get vaccinated to protect themselves against the Coronavirus, which has killed millions of people worldwide and has caused countries across the world to shut down as a measure to contain gatherings in an effort to stop the spread of the contagious viral infection.

In a live video chat on IG with Jamaica’s Health Minister Christopher Tufton, Romeich disclosed that he and the entire Romeich Entertainment team, including Shenseea, have been vaccinated. According to Major, vaccination is needed to get back on track to restart the economy.

“I am a human being that lives in Jamaica and I love the country, and I can tell you this and I want you to pass this onto the teams that makes decisions, yes, Corona I very dangerous and it is affecting us,” he said. “But you see this no entertainment and poverty and all a dem sumtin’ deh affect we worse because the less we have the less we can help.”

According to Romeich Major, many persons have indicated an interest in learning more about the vaccine after it was disclosed that the entire Romeich Entertainment team was vaccinated. Many were particularly concerned for the team’s wellbeing due to the conspiracy theories that the vaccine has terrible side effects.

The live chat dubbed “Covid Chat” was aimed at discussing the vaccines and the perceived negative effects, which has contributed to the reluctance of some persons to become vaccinated. According to the Health Minister, people might react differently to the vaccines, but there are no long-term side effects.

He was replying to Romeich, who said that persons were saying that the ‘pump’- a colloquial reference to the penis in local parlance, was not working after taking the vaccines.

However, the Minister assured that the vaccine effects are not permanent.

“Well you know it affects people differently, but the truth is there should be no long term effects. So even if the pump [penis] don’t work initially, it will start work back based on what I have seen clinically. We not gonna endorse something that will have side effects and have permanent effect. The vaccine is saving lives,” the Minister said.

This conversation might not be unique to Jamaica, but especially in dancehall, masculinity and sex drives are among the key attributes of men within the space. The concerns raised by Romeich might very well be representative of the views of those in the masses. Not all in the dancehall space are for the vaccines, though. Among the condemners are Buju Banton, Spragga Benz, and Sizzla.

Meanwhile, according to the Center for Disease, vaccinated persons are not required to wear masks in small groups and crowds. It is hoped that as more persons become vaccinated, things can go back to a semblance of normalcy.

So far, about up to late March, more than 25,000 Jamaicans were vaccinated as the country undertakes a massive drive.
